Gambling and Addiction

These days online casinos and gambling are picking up pace with many people continuing to play various games that include betting. Even though more than eighty percent of the adult population is taking part in gambling at some point in their lives, there is a minor percentage (about 1%) that is taking gambling very seriously. Most people play in once in a while to have some harmless fun. But, some people are so dependent on gambling for their happiness that it turns into an addiction. It affects their entire life by making the person irresponsible about their personal life, professional life and other aspects. Addiction to gambling can be identified with the help of observing the person for lying or hiding behavior. Those addicted always make up lies about where they are and how much they spend. This lying adds to their guilt about losing a lot of money. Many such people who are addicted try to win the money they have lost during gambling. They put in more and more money hoping to win it again at some point.

This kind of behavior is termed as chasing. Though they know what they are doing is wrong, they still cannot stop themselves from avoiding the addiction. This is detrimental to their relationships, be it family, friends or colleagues. The people that need the most help are those who are not able to stop themselves from performing those actions in spite of having awareness of its consequences.
